Battle Stations User figures 2009

Here is the DAU (daily active users) chart for Battle Stations (original English version) for 2009 taken from Facebook.
Since we switched to BS2 there’s been a huge drop in DAU. A further drop in  MAU after we introduced a new crew system to comply with new FB rules. Compared to the same period in 2008 the dip seems to be a seasonal effect though I’m not willing to assume that was the only reason for the fall in MAU/DAU.

The new FB rules are a joke: there are still many apps using forced invites to gate content, providing benefits for having 501 friends playing the game. This is going to be annoying but it looks like we’re going to have a new crew system again very soon.

drop could also be old multis used by CCS, if he had that many,
then you still have the bid of people still complaining about the lost of AP regain for mass adding people/ losing there crew.

Hmm. Does the graph show users who use BS through the direct link rather than from fb’s frame? Because quite a few users don’t bother with the FB frame at all, since it just seems to slow things down and is far from aesthetically pleasing.

I would be interested to see something that doesn’t require crew, but tracks who you have invited to play the game and gives bonuses off of that info (like whether they set up an ocho account and whether they spend $$). We need a way to reward those that spam and entice them to do it. Maybe they should get ochos based off of what their recruits spend and give them the same AP limit as regular ochoers. REWARD SPAMMING! =D

I must say i think a lot of people stopped using there other accounts once the second ship system was released too…

But if you’re going to change the crew system again then i think there needs to be a big reward put in place for the inconvenience once again…

It is a certainty that people dropped out over the crew debacle as there were a bunch of posts on the main board from people who have never posted saying they were gone rather then pay for crew. I would bet there are 50 people minimum for every 1 who posts that thinks the same way. Can’t go backwards, what happened with the system changeover happened and that is that.
Maybe you can send a couple of those little reminder FB messages that every other game seems to send, letting people know that it is all fixed/changed.
Increasing the rewards for referrals would help too. Keep the level 11 limitations in place, so spam groups and other crap doesn’t return, but true referral bonuses for real referred players.

Bring back the old referral system, scrap the level 11 limitation, then people like myself would be happy to push the MAU back up again.

@Rob spammers did bring real players.

I always said spammers were great for advertising and now you have realised the hard way.

Also the new crew system wouldnt of helped either, I went on about it on the db but no one listens to Rory :P

Maybe you should stop listening to the ass suckers LL XD

    Suggestions:

    1) BRAND NEW PLAYERS are encouraged to link an ocho account and when the reach X level they are given their first free gift of 25 ocho to start them off on the path of ocho righteousnes.

    2) Contact online game magazines and ask them to either review the game or make a special offer to their readers – such as a free special item or some such.

    3) Research who your players are – such as average age, gender, what other games or game systems do they play and then advertise on websites which would appeal to that gamer audience. A one-time banner ad on a popular website for gamers or a website which appeals to a lot of people of a certain age group such as shoutwire.com may work out more effective and cheaper than advertising on facebook.

    4) Make preparations to move outside of the suffocating environment that is Facebook. It seems they are killing off game apps with their stupid restrictions. There are games such as fallen sword which started off as an idpendent game which only recently mirrored itself as a FB app. This game has a very large fan base and is also what might be termed a ’boutique game’. Being a complicated game does not mean you are at a disadvantage when compared to the simplistic yet popular games of Z*nga (which have very little long term retention).

I want to implement the energy(AP) pack gifting idea. We will need to bring back some form of limited crew system to facilitate this. Perhaps you can only send to your main crew.

i agree that the app needs better advertising to attract new players
i suggested a while back making an iphone/ipod touch app of battlestations which allows you to connect your facebook account and play it through the ipod

this could be your pricing system
battlestations – $99/£59 (cheapest app store price)
battlestations (50 ocho package) – $5/£3 (re purchasable, can be used to top up, like some other iphone games)
    battlestations (110 ocho package
    battlestations (220 ocho package)
    so on and so forth

if the app becomes popular it will break the top 25 in a category and will recieve VERY good advertising

I would like to suggest a “GIFTING” sytem in battlestations,
like give your crews weapons or parts..
    especially for clan wars..
